4 Things To Do on The Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah

4 Things To Do on The Blessed 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah:

The following are recommended acts to do during the blessed 10 days and nights of Dhul Hijjah.

01 Fasting the 9 days of Dhul Hijjah:

It is recommended to fast on the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah, especially on the 9th which is the blessed day of Arafah.
Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) encouraged us to do righteous deeds in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah; and indeed fasting is one of the best of deeds.
Almighty Allah says, “All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it.”’ [Sahih Al-Bukhari]
Note: The 10th of Dhul Hijjah is the day of Eid ul Adha and it is prohibited to fast on this day.

02 Reciting tasbeeh, tahmeed, tahleel and takbeer abundantly:

It is Sunnah to recite takbeer (Allahu Akbar), tahmeed (Alhamdulillah), tahleel (Laa ilaaha ill-Allah), and tasbeeh (SubhanAllah) during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah.
These words should be recited abundantly in the masajid, homes, streets and in every place where it is permissible to remember and glorify Allah.

03 Offering the Qurbani (sacrifice of a livestock animal):

The qurbani (also known as udh’hiya) is the sacrifice of a livestock animal during Eid ul-Adha.
It is the sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh). It is a means of getting closer to Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla.
It is obligatory upon every sane adult who is not a traveller and can afford it (wealth equal to or more than nisab).
It is performed on the days of sacrifice which is the 10th, 11th or 12th of Dhul Hijjah.

04 Doing more good deeds than usual:

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days (Dhul Hijjah).” [Sunan Ibn Majah]
Therefore we should increase the amount of good deeds we do in order to take advantage of this blessed time where good deeds are increased significantly.

May Allah Enable Us Make The Best Of These Days And Nights And Make It A Means Of Our Success In This World And In The Hereafter.

Indeed it is a great favour and blessing from Allah that He has made for His righteous servants periods of time within which they can increase in good deeds to attain great rewards and one of these opportunistic periods is the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah (the final month of the Islamic Calendar, in which the Hajj is performed).

The excellence of these ten days have been mentioned in the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
1. Allah says in the Qur'an:

"By the dawn and by the ten nights … " [Al-Qur'an 89:1-2]
Ibn Kathir said that "the ten nights" referred to here are the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, and this opinion was also held by Ibn Abbas, Ibn az-Zubair, Mujahid and others.

2. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet said, "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul Hijja)." Then some companions of the Prophet said, "Not even Jihad?"
He replied, "Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allah's sake) and does Not return with any of those things."
(Sahih Al Bukhari, Book #15, Hadith #86)

3. Allah says:

" … and remember the name of Allah in the appointed days." [Al-Qur'an 2:203]
Ibn Abbas and Ibn Kathir said this means in the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

4. The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, said:

Prophet (PBUH) was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafa (9th of Dhu'I-Hijja), whereupon he said: It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year.
(Sahih Muslim, Book#006, Hadith #2603)

5 . The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace fasted first 9 days of Dhul-Hijjah.

Narrated One of the wives of the Prophet: Hunaydah ibn Khalid narrated from his wife on the authority of one of the wives of the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) who said: The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) used to fast the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, Ashura' and three days of every month, that is, the first Monday (of the month) and Thursday.
(Sunan Abudawud, Book #13, Hadith #2431)

6. The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace said :

Umm Salama, the wife of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) to have said:
He who has a sacrificial animal with him whom (he intends) to offer as sacrifice, and he enters the month of Dhu'I-Hijja, he should not get his hair cut or nails trimmed until he has sacrificed the animal.
(Sahih Muslim, Book #022, Hadith #4873)
